One of my favorite places at the beach! Wonderful food...best hush puppies and mango salsa!!

This was an ok place. Decor is rough with paper/plastic plates and utensils. Consider it a dive. As for the food, a couple of standouts here. The hush puppies are good. Additionally, they do serve clams steamed raw and fried. We attempted to use the deal on yelp. Two different bills-4 adults. We were only allowed to use one deal although both bills were well over 30 each. The bathrooms are outside. It is a good one time visit. We won't be back.

If you're looking for a casual joint with good food, look no further. We have been here several times and have not been disappointed. Sometimes the service is a tad slow, but they are always busy, so we never mind waiting. The fish and chips are great and the portion is very large. The scallop basket is delicious, but I hoped there would be a few more in there! My daughter had the mussels with wine sauce app as a meal and it was perfect. The wine sauce is just okay. Used my yelp check in offer!!

It had been awhile since stopping in for lunch - nothing has changed - just great seafood food at a great price. The weekends are nice as they have servers to take care of you. Do yourself a favor and get the seafood burrito - yummy

Went after a night at the beach. Place had a chill, beachy vibe. Very relaxed, happy atmosphere. Food was great!! They have great sauces. The tartar is superb! Had the Lemon Butter Basa, very yummy. I would of liked a little less Lemon Butter Wine Sauce on it though. My table ordered the Peel and Eat Mayport Shrimp as an appetizer...excellent. They ate a shrimp basket and the grouper sandwich...seemed to really enjoy it. Staff is a happy group and they get the food out pretty quick.

I love this place ... One of the best kept secrets !!! From the fresh seafood, but the hidden gem is the Philly Cheesesteak or chicken cheesesteak !!! Great staff, friendly cooks, also freshest seafood in town!!! You can't beat it

Not much food for the money and they wouldn't allow us to split the ticket to use the coupon

  • James R.

We ate dinner upstairs Saturday night and the service was pretty bad... The table next to us sat down after we did and their food arrived about the time our order was taken. That's a bit much... The food was just okay, certainly not worth the long wait (or drive from Arlington) for that matter, and it was a little pricey for what we received. We almost went to Mayport, where we usually go and will definitely continue going in that direction.

Great fresh seafood selection! If i lived close by I would of stocked up on pretty much everything. However, this place was close to our hotel and I opted for the Phillly. It was decent not the best one I've had but it hit the spot none the less. I will def give them another try and sit down for dinner and drinks.

The service is good. The taste is just Ok The waiter can help you get the meaning of the dish choices if you don't have a idea of American style of seafood.

  • Rick P.

Good seafood very casual. I surprised another couple here because my bill wouldn't hit the $20 range. Yelp has coupon for 5 off if over 20 bucks. I had the Franks favorite and yes it hangs over the bun. I had Kimberly as a waitress and she was very good very nice. The menu is packed with all types of good things. I was tempted to get new England clam chowder. This is a good place for good casual seafood lunch or dinner

As I work close by I was told I needed to try there cheesesteak it was the best in jacksonville. I called in my order the guy was not the most pleasant person in the world but he got the order and said it would be 10.. walked over and got my sandwich which was ready paid and went on my way. . The cheesesteak was good the meat was very good I just don't think I am a cheesesteak kind of person.. will I go back.. Most definitely but probably not for the cheesesteak. .

Excellent food! Try the cheeseburger is may be the best thing I've ever eaten. Service was good considering it's Father's Day. Also, the mahi wrap is excellent as well!

    (5)
  • Katie L.

Best seafood I've had outside my hometown!!! Had the beachside maho tacos that were delicious! Also all the sauces they bring you were great!!! Tarter sauce on point!! And if you done in you get 10% anything in the seafood market downstairs!! His is def a dive restaurant but the food was beyond on amazing!!!!!

Pleasant surprise - I have lived a few blocks away for a year and a half now but have never made my way over. I was meeting a colleague for dinner and he suggested Beachside, so I figured it was worth a try. I was in the mood for poultry instead of seafood and got chicken fingers, but I think it says a lot for Beachside that the chicken fingers appeared to be hand breaded instead of terrible frozen ones. They were not the best I've ever had, but still quite good. Fries were boring crinkle cut but well seasoned, and the hush puppies were great. Good prices on beer, and the outdoor patio is quite pleasant. I would definitely go back.

Don't come here. The food was average, decent pricing; however that's about it. The service was terrible, not the worst ever but pretty bad. It was a "slow" day and it still took forever to get our food and any type of refills. They offer a $5 off if you check in, I showed the waitress my phone for the coupon, she grabs it from my hand and walks off with my iPhone for a good 5 min. Thankfully my phone was fine, but who does that?

Beachside Seafood Restaurant is a screened in porch above the seafood market. It's nice when the weather is good, because it's open air and you can feel the breeze coming off the ocean a couple of blocks away. You could do worse for seafood in Jax beach, but there's really nothing exciting about the menu here. It's pretty plain-jane. I've tried the fish tacos, which were pretty good. Blackened mahi, served on top of cabbage and diced tomatoes. I got mine without cheese because I don't really dig cheese and fish. They serve it with a few sauces that are served in big squeeze bottles - the Louisiana style Remoulade was really good. I had the fried shrimp last time, which is a good deal with 2 sides for $7.99. It sort of reminds me of seafood places I would eat as a kid after going fishing. Sticky tables, fried seafood, cheap for the most part. They allow people to smoke, which is pretty gross. Beachside Seafood has a few beers on draft, including one of my favorite local brews: Duke's. The service has always been friendly, if not the fastest. There are probably 5 parking spots surrounding the building, so you might have to find parking on the streets around the place.

Had not been to Beachside in about 5 years and it has gone way down hill. The service is friendly but at the same time dreadfully slow and disorganized. We waited at least 10 minutes for drinks and over 45 minutes for the food. The place also wasn't extremely busy. The muddy, gloppy and truly nasty gumbo was disgusting. The bun for the grouper sandwich(the reason we went) is so big and dry that the fish was barely noticeable. The famed cheese steak was over cooked greasy and small. The only reason for the 2nd star is that they have Yuengling on tap. My first timer friends said they'd never go back & neither will I.

Came here to eat, they sat us gave us menus. The waiter came back over and said sorry were closed. Don't recommended coming here.

Food and service were awesome!! The seafood burrito was great, crab cake was vey close to those in Maine and you can never go wrong with their shrimp basket. Fun open air upstairs area! Love it and will be back

Food was good but the service was pretty slow.

On a weekend trip to Jacksonville I visited here, because it was nearby and the Yelp reviews weren't too bad. I read the service was bad and the food was good. Well, the service was definitely lacking. More than anything our waitress seemed young and inexperienced, but she was nice and trying. My group ordered oysters, but they were disappointed in the size of the oysters. I ordered the shrimp poboy and asked for the shrimp blackened. The poboy lacked shrimp and the shrimp were bland. I've had much better and fresher poboys here in Atlanta. The fries weren't hot, just barely warm. I was disappointed in the food overall. Many in my group didn't finish their food, which made me think it wasn't just me. If you come here, come for the drinks, not the food. Oh the positive, it was nice sitting outside watching the sunset.

    (1)
  • Melanie T.

My service was horrible! I are lunch here yesterday. They get one star for their gumbo, and one star for the outdoor seating and good music. The shrimp I ordered was not good at all.

    (2)
  • Jason B.

Wonderful outside deck to sit in. Very friendly wait staff and all the food is great. Trigger fish wrap was awesome! They make a great Remoulade that goes great on everything.

  • Michael Hosto H.

Food was good but have a big issue. So we went BECAUSE they had a kids eat free on Tuesday promo. (*with two drinks). So my wife and I ordered a bunch of food and beers and when they brought the check the led with "I know this is kids eat free night but you have to drink sodas to get the special". As you might expect I got perturbed and asked for the manager. It was obvious waiter realized it was BS and was uncomfortable even discussing it. I give the owner John and Jason a solid " B" for Bullshit.

    (2)
  • Trista S.

Good food but service was pretty bad. Sat at the table for ten minutes before anyone came to get our drink order.

    (2)
  • Tyler O.

We went close to closing time. Food and service was still great. Small place with beach type vibe. Good atmosphere and seafood.

    (4)
  • Kathy C.

Rating this two stars mainly because of the service, BUT I can't blame the servers. I think there are some basic operating issues at this establishment from reading the reviews and from our own experience. We had one of the slowest service on a slow day as there were many tables unoccupied. The two poor girls were trying their best to do everything quickly, but between having to take orders, running to get drinks (going downstairs at times), running the food (again, downstairs), and clearing the tables of the entire upstairs dining room, unless they have the capability of Flash Gordon, good service is just not gonna happen. I had the fish taco, which like some other reviewers said, was more like a fish burrito. It was pretty tasty; however, I also had a cup of the fish chowder, which I thought was pretty bad and over priced.

We are regulars. Always fresh seafood and great service. Try the shrimp and key lime pie. Awesome!

    (4)
  • Mark R.

The food was okay and the service was nice. The side salad was pitiful and we were charged $5 for it. My wife needed a baked potato since they couldn't tell us if the french fries were gluten free then they charged us for the baked potato. Also, we didn't get the prices for the "specials" advertised on the sign. Consequently, our bill was ~$100 and there was only 4 of us. It's not a ~$25/plate sort of place. We won't be back.

    (2)
  • Evy F.

This was an all right seafood restaurant. Had a bunch of friends with me and we all ordered something different. We read reviews before we went and ordered those suggestions. Overall, everyone's food was okay and atmosphere was okay. Probably won't go back there again.

This to me is a fast food place, except it's not fast. I went there because I had purchased a Groupon deal of $18 for $40. I've been wanting to try this place every time I drive by even though my husband was not terribly into it, so I got the Groupon and we went. Parking was ok. Fish store on ground floor is exciting. Then wow you get in the restaurant..I get the rustic thing..but it's a plastic plates and paper cups place. Sat on tiny uncomfortable (and dirty) little table. Had to go find a waitress and ask her to come clean it at her leisure. Then a bigger table opened up so we moved and got a little optimistic. Not for long. The waitress came and I asked for bread. She looked at me like I was the anti Christ and responded in a very nasty way "we don't do that!". It was all downhill from then on. Food was ok for a fast food joint, and I never go to fast food places so I'm guessing. I got blackened swordfish and my husband got lobster bisque, just because we had to use the Groupon. We waited for ages for everything (except the bill). I couldn't wait to leave and I'm never going back.

Sometimes life works out in your favor and everything is good, and my visit to Jacksonville Beach happened to fall on one of those days. I was traveling in the area and took some time to go to the beach and run. I love running on the beach. When I was done, I like to eat at local places to get a better variety and also keep the money in the local pockets so to speak. I noticed some neon down on A1A and circled past several chain restaurants and they would be my backup if the neon I saw did work out. As I pulled in, one of the employees of the fish house downstairs welcomed me. I asked what was really fresh-- and he ran thru a couple of fish names and mentioned snapper. OOOOOh-- I said blackened, and we agreed--Blackened snapper. The restaurant up stairs is plactic forks and picnic tables. The place was busy with couples, families, trios of travelers and me. I took the mafia table in the corner so no one could get the drop on me. So I ordered a draft beer and of course blackened snapper. The fish was very firm and seasoned to near perfection with just the right amount of doneness, yum. I wished several times my wife was along to enjoy the fun, this is a very good fish house. Fresh fish downstairs if you so desire. I love finding these places, they are gems in the world of good eats.

Great beach place. Open air with free sea breeze and good food. The Philly is really good.

My fiancee and I had a hankering for some BOGO food so we clipped the coupon we saw for Beachside Seafood from the Mint Magazine and we were on our way. We arrived just as it started to rain so we sat inside. We were greeted by a waitress very quickly and was seated right away, she actually told us about the inside dining area which was helpful. I was please to see they renovated the inside dining area, slapped some paint on the walls and decorated a little. Friends of mine have been raving about Beachside's famous cheese steak so I had to give it a try. The food was a little slow coming out but it was worth the wait. The cheese steak was so good my fiancee couldn't stop eating my sandwich. She had the grilled tuna sandwich which I did not get to try, needless to say it wasn't around long. Everything would have been perfect except when we handed the waitress our coupon she sadly stated that it was only good M-TH, DOH! Make the coupon good all week long and you'll have at least one lifelong customer who will visit once a week!

Lobster was like shoe leather, baked potatoe was old and cold, cole slaw was warm so I didn't eat it. Best part of the meal was hush puppies and I could have kicked myself for spending $70 for hush puppies. Kitchen looked filthy. This place needs a complete overhaul!!!!

  • Dave L.

Food was probably better than ok...but the atmosphere takes it down a notch. Casual atmosphere was alright by me, but seemed less than clean which is a must in the seafood world. Portions were plentiful and service was good, but way overpriced. The market downstairs is a nice add on....but as a while it all just falls short.

i love their seafood burrito! this is a nice place to come to if you don't feel like dressing up. i would come back to visit their seafood market.

We popped in to try this at 810pm on a Sunday night. They close at 9pm. The guy in the kitchen said it wasn't too late to have a quick bite so we ventured upstairs. I had originally wanted Tacolus- which was packed and Salt Life was closed. (I had not been to either but have heard good things.) This place was open and not busy so we took a chance. $4.99 Fried pickles- too salty and a little too greasy. $8.99 Fish Taco Burrito with side of chips and salsa- it was good. Certainly not the best I have ever had. Lightly blackened fish with tomato, lettuce, cabbage and cheddar cheese. I thought it could have used a little more spice. $9.99 Seafood Burrito with side of chips and salsa- When my partner handed it over to me to try, the first thing I tought was "wow, that's a lot of seafood." However, after taking a bite I wasn't happy at all. A burrito filled with nice shrimp, scallops and imitation crab meat and a light sauce that if you didn't see it dripping out of the bottom you'd have no idea it was even there. It tastes like a mouthful of boiled seafood. No seasoning. He used the black pepper and tabasco sauce on the table to no avail. The lack of flavor and the overall teture makes this a huge thumbs down. $5.99 Kids Corndog and fries- Someone mentioned fresh cut fries. Not the case here. These were run of the mill crinkle cut fries on the thin side at that. The corndog was okay enough for my son though he only ate two nibbles. The staff seemed okay, though we really didn't interact with them too much. Only two other tables had customers. So it was a pretty slow night. A group of three walked in and the staff immediately told them they had just closed so they sadly turned around and walked back downstairs to leave. I got our check and quickly paid. Made our way to the car to drive back home..... I wish it were better. It was a nice night out to eat in the breeze. The good news is that they could easily improve. Maybe the other entrees are better than what we had. I don't know and I am pretty sure I won't come back to find out. I live across town where I am tired of the same old same old and love a good seafood spot. By far Safe Harbor is my go to spot but the hours never work out for me. However, the orginal starters of Safe Harbor own The Fish Company in Neptune Beach and offer up the same Safe Harbor favorites and more.

Great service, our server was Spencer. The casual environment is good for brining kids during the day. Music wasn't loud, think coastal Caribbean feel, but set a fun mood. We ordered the crab dip, it was excellent, I recommend it as a great starter. Enough for three adults to share. Our kids had the shrimp and we orders the scallops basket and a Philly cheese steak. All of the items were delivered in a timely manner and delicious. For a seafood place the Philly will surprise you with great taste. Overall a great casual dining location at the beach.

I came with my family and drove 40 minutes from St. Augustine, Fl. To eat there. I like to try local soups and cuisine, so I got the lobster bisque as I'd eaten crab bisque the day before. IT TASTED AND LOOKED LIKE CAMPBELLS CREAMY TOMATO. If you're thinking about going to this restaurant, don't get this item or don't go. Highly disappointed and would not recommend this to anyone.

We both had fresh trigger fish and it was delicious. My wrap was toasty pressed. Lorraine was a great server. It is a casual upstairs eatery. U won't be disappointed.

Went on July 3 and it was very busy. We did not go expecting great service but we received excellent service and amazing food. When we arrived the upstairs was busy so we ordered some beers downstairs and waited for a few minutes for our table. As long as your chill and easygoing you will enjoy this place and all it has to offer. I recommend the Philly cheesesteak, corn nuggets, seafood burrito, and the grilled tuna sandwich. Great food and great service all around. Only downside was the table of beached whales beside us who complained about not getting food fast enough, but they were quite rude and I wouldn't have wanted to serve them if I worked there. Thanks for a great night out beachside seafood!

  • Patrick H.

One of the beat places to go for seafood at the beach. I usually get the seafood burrito. It's loaded with seafood. No "filler", just loads of seafood. Open air seating is nice. Restrooms are a little questionable. A little on the pricy side for lunch, but the quality of the food is good.

I bought a double take deal for this restaurant because their online menu said they had dungenous crab. BUT THEY DON'T!!! And to add insult to injury, the florida lobster tail is $54 per pound!!! Did I mention this restaurant is in Florida????? Oh, their beer menu stinks too!

My favorite restaurant to go to after being at the beach all day. You want to eat upstairs. It is definitely Jax beach culture.

What you see is what you get. Nothing special, decent seafood, friendly beachy atmosphere. A quick lunch while here on business. I started with the fried pickles. Far from being hand breaded, they were EXTREMELY salty. The portion was good, but I couldn't eat more than a few. Do not suggest getting these. Disappointing. Next, I had what was on the sign that originally drew me to this place: Hogfish. I had a lightly blackened sandwich that was ok, but not great for the $12.99 pricetag. The fish was light and tasty, but nothing special. I ordered it with black beans and rice. My mistake. Being from the Fort Lauderdale, I expected these to have some flavor. What I got was a small souflee cup with some microwaved white rice with black beans straight out of the can on top. Flavorless and pretty yuck. As she was clearing my table, the waitress offered me some homemade Key lime pie. How could I resist. The pie came out pretty good. I just wish they hadn't drizzled that strawberry sauce all over the top...not a good combination. Either way, the pie was pretty good. Had I known that it came with a $5.99 price tag, I probably would have passed being as I can get this at home anytime. Again, my mistake. I sat upstairs and the servers were very nice and service was prompt. Overall, not bad, but I bet you could do better elsewhere. In short, overpriced for barely decent food.

A great off-the-beaten-path, down-to-earth, no-frills type of establishment that specializes in seafood, Florida style. The food served here is what you would expect from any quality local seafood restaurant. The menu options are ample, suitable to just about any palate. The service is friendly and attentive and allows for you to just relax. I had just come from Joe's Crab Shack flustered by the hostess' rude demeanor telling me that I'd have to wait 30 minutes for a table. I love how this place just relaxes me and there's no waiting. The dining area is an elevated open-air screened porch, which adds to the nice laid-back ambiance and offering some views of the area. The water isn't visible from here, though. I've been here a few times before and I've never had a negative experience. Great spot.

Enjoyed this place since forever! Love the scallops love the shrimp love the oysters and definitely love the cheese steak! I also recommend the key lime pie. I don't usually eat key lime pie but this one was pretty delicious! This is definitely one of my favorite places to dine at or get take out! Plus everyone is nice here!

Service was really good. Food was really good. We were here for happy hour and tried corn nuggets and fish bites. Both were extremely good. We also tried the fried pickles. They were ok. We have had better. My husband tried the sautéed muscles. He really liked them. I'm not a big fan but they were ok. It is a open air restaurant. Very laid back and relaxed. We will be back when in the area. I would recommend coming here.

Original Review Date: 12/11/2011 I have tried eating here about 5 times. Despite being advertised as a "market", nothing in the restaurant part tastes fresh. There tacos are actually burritos, the chips are always stale, and my friends and I always leave with stomach aches. Service is always pretty bad, too. I try to support small local places, but this one is not worth the effort.

I wish I could comment on the food, but I can't. The service was so bad I walked out. When I arrived at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon (clearly not a busy time). No one greeted me when I got to the upstairs dining area so I went and sat down at a table by a window. A good long time later someone came over and asked if I could move to another table. Huh? "She had her servers on a rotation and didn't want to make them mad." Well, I am helping you pay your servers, how about worrying about my experience a bit? This is why I chose "not sure" for water service. I guess theoretically they ahv it if you can wait around for half an hour. I did move, sat there for ten minutes and watched other tables be waited on, then walked out and left. I ended up having an overpriced salad at J Alexanders but the service THERE was outstanding.

If I could give it less stars, I would. I've been coming here for years and I always order the Seafood Burrito. There was a time when it was delicious, filling, and worth ten bucks. Last two times I was here, it was disgusting. And I mean that. Gross and inedible. The burrito used to be stuffed with fresh seafood, vegetables and salsa. Now it's frozen shrimp, frozen scallops and unmelted cheese in a raw flour tortilla. The service has never been anything to look forward to but my last meal there (and it will be my last), my waitress Kim kept hurrying me through the meal even though a) I was alone and had a book with me, b) the place was empty, and c) I actually had questions about the menu since the last time I was there was disappointing and the food had changed. She was not interested, for reasons I can only guess at, and suffice to say that with the burrito I didn't eat (and she didn't ask me about) I will not be back. Shame because it's a lovely spot and the fish market downstairs is a great place to buy oysters and other fresh catches. Avoid the restaurant though.

I have attempted to eat at this establishment twice, and regretted it both times. The most recent time, my fiance and I arrived and sat down. After over 20 minutes and trying to flag someone down, we FINALLY got a waitress. We placed a drink order and proceeded to wait another 20 minutes to get them. The food was another 45 minutes after that and by the time we got it, was cold. The food was not even mediocre, but we were hungry so we ate it. For two drinks and bad sandwiched, we paid over $40 and ended up both getting sick!!! Long story short, steer clear!!!! I even emailed them after the experience to give them a chance to make it right...........no response. Obviously, they know they provide bad, overpriced food, and worse service but they just don't care.

There were a couple of menu items I dug, but for the most part the screened in, open air eating area upstairs was great, but the food was just ok. Loved: -The Crab stew was packed full of chunky potatoes and a lot of crab! I could have eaten a bucket of this stuff! -Lobster Bisque - was creamy and full of Sherry! Just the way I love it! Liked: -The Seafood Burrito - it had a delicious cream sauce over the scallops, shrimp and crab. The problem was that the sauce was watery and made the burrito soggy very quickly. -The Blackened Fish Taco looked just like my Seafood Burrito? Weird. But I did like the flavor of the Taco. Eh... -Smoked Fish Dip - had a good flavor but the texture was really creamy with fish bits in it...not so good on the tongue. Overall, this is a good place for a 'plastic basket' seafood lunch and a cold beer up top on the deck of Beachside, but I definitely will not hit this spot up for dinner. The entrée dinner items didn't get me excited in least.

I am a fan. Very fresh seafood, well prepared, and service efficient. Had dinner night before last (first time in), and came back for lunch yesterday. Great grouper, snapper, bisque, and cheesesteak sandwiches. I will gladly return. Second floor walk up is only detriment, but is open air screened deck seating. Thanks for great food and service!

what can i say? the best thing about this place was the two for one bottle beer on happy hour. no happy hour on the 6.99 glass of wine. got a groupon what a waste! 10.99 for a tiny fish buritto with a few chips. tiny fried scrimp. this place sucks! i will never return. i felt sorry for the waiter, he really tried. this place is headed down the tubes! don't waste your time.

Someone needs to explain to them what a taco is, because they served us burritos. The food is not worth the wait or the price. The service is agonizingly slow. The food is just a big bowl of okay.

Beachside Grill in Jax Beach is one of those cool-looking places you always drive by and say, "I should go there!" The upper deck is always crowded with people and the fish market below looks interesting! Well, my family finally got that chance the other day when we took advantage of a Groupon deal. After purchasing the Groupon, some friends of ours told us of their horrible experience there. Then I began reading the reviews here on Yelp. Needless to say, we were thinking to ourselves, "Oh boy, why didn't we read reviews first?!" I called ahead to see if the restaurant was appropriate for a toddler at dinnertime. The guy I spoke with was very nice and told me absolutely; they are a family restaurant and they have high chairs. I then asked if we could use our Groupon downstairs at the fish market, but the answer was no. So we packed up our little guy and headed to what we expected could be a long wait and not-so-great food. When we arrived, we headed upstairs. The room was packed. There wasn't one free table. And I could instantly see what everyone here on Yelp was saying about them being grossly understaffed. They only had two girls up there with about 10 packed tables. We stood there for probably 7 minutes without a smile, "hello," or a "We'll be right with you." I thought to myself, "Yup, here we go." And I worried about the wait with our toddler. He couldn't wait. Two more parties joined us on the top deck for a table. Then, a male server came up and told us of the downstairs dining. I had only seen the tall tables outside and told him it wouldn't work for us with our toddler. But then he told us of the tables inside and how you just order directly from the cooks! That sounded perfect for us, so we went downstairs. As we walked in, and turned to our left, there was an entirely empty restaurant, just waiting for us. We got our son all situated in his high chair and took a peek at the menus sitting there on the counter. We were very cautious with our order. We only ordered items that were highly recommended in the reviews, and a shrimp cocktail. Because, really, how hard is it to mess up a shrimp cocktail? We had $40 to spend, so we got a little of everything. We ordered their award-winning Philly Cheese steak, a shrimp cocktail, chicken fingers for our son, lobster bisque for me and the shrimp taco (more like a burrito) for my hubby. Our food was ready in minutes. The cooks called our name and we grabbed it from them. Not only was our food hot and fresh, but IT WAS GOOD! And not a, "Ya, this is OK for fast food," good, but it was delightfully and surprisingly really tasty! The shrimp cocktail came out warm, which was fine by me. The jumbo prawns were cooked perfectly and since we were downstairs, we didn't have to wait on a server to get sauce or drink refills. We just helped ourselves! The lobster bisque was by far the best thing we ordered. I will definitely go back again just for that! It was rich and creamy and had a hint of sherry. It was awesome. They even offered a few slices of hot and crispy fresh bread to dip in it. The Philly was awesome. The bisque really filled me up so I was only able to take a bite and then my husband finished it off. My son's chicken fingers were seasoned just right and very good. We kept his french fries for ourselves and even those were great. My least favorite item of everything we ordered was the fish taco, which seems to be a hit here in Yelp. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as I expected. It needed more seasoning, or some zip. We added some of the chipotle ranch sauce they had to it and that helped a lot with flavor. So the key to this place is simple: Sit downstairs and order yourself! This way, you won't have to wait for one of their servers. If you need anything, you can simply walk right up to the cooks and ask for it. They checked on us and asked how we liked everything. They were very nice and they wanted to make sure we were happy with our meal. And it is perfect for parents visiting with babies or small children. The downstairs area isn't as noisy and you can get your kiddos fed in a quick time-frame; something that is imperative! Things they need to work on: Hire more servers and re-train the ones you have. We really had no quams with the food, so for our experience, the improvements could really only be made with the staff. While eating, one of the waitresses came into the cook area and dropped an F bomb because the boys in the kitchen had given her a shrimp taco instead of a fish taco and her patron was allergic to shrimp. My husband was on his way out to ask her to watch her mouth, but she had already stormed upstairs. I felt badly for the guys in the kitchen! So young lady with the blonde pony tail, watch your mouth please. There may be customers nearby. If I had read the reviews on here before going, we would have never tried it. Thank goodness for Groupon. I'll be going back for that lobster bisque in the near future!

You drive by a place a million times and you tell yourself, "Hey Self, we should try that place." You don't know why you tell yourself that, but something about the place looks like it's try-able. Or maybe you should just stop talking to yourself. You crazy ass. Anyway, I asked Glabella if she wanted to try it and she was like ,"Hellz to the yeah!" They have shrimp there so no big surprise she was down. We roll up about 6. Climb up the stairs to the rooftop open air dining area. It's a little windy so like most girls, she gets cold and I go get my jacket for her from the car. We ordered up some conch fritters for starters and I had a Bud Lite. the fritters we mostly filler and little conch, but not bad. At least they weren't too oily. They were crisp on the outside and soft inside. I liked them, but not as much as some. Glabella had a blackened shrimp and scallop combo platter which was like $15. It was tasty. The shrimp were small/medium size and cleaned. Not too salty. The scallops were small, not gritty and seemed pretty fresh. Not too scallopy like you get in the frozen food aisle. The fresh cut fries were really good. I had a blackened grouper sandwich, which was average for it's kind. The fish was a little chewy and had no other flavor but the blackened seasoning. Grouper is a pretty mild fish though...her meal was better than mine. Maybe I shoulda had the fish tacos. Overall, we enjoyed it ok, but I was not so enthused I have to go back. I like Safe Harbor better...

I order the same thing every time- blackened fish taco. Yummy. And good for the diet. The tortilla chips it comes with are sometimes really fresh, sometimes a little stale, so I sometimes eat them or sometimes don't. Sometimes we order to go (call ahead), sometimes we eat on the second floor (screened in, pretty nice views, does get chilly). Sometimes they have live music on the weekends, which can be nice or annoying, depending on your mood. Got the conch fritters once and agree with other reviewer- mostly filler. Overpriced. Onion strings are yummy, if you are in the mood for something greasy and salty. Ordered the grilled shrimp po' boy once, and that was good. Would order it again for sure. They could use a few more beers on the menu- all they have is like Bud and something similar on draft. Will continue to go to this place for the blackened fish tacos, which I swear help me manage my weight.

Yesterday I visited Jacksonville Beach for the first time in seven years. I was looking for some decent local, non-chain type style seafood restaurant within walking distance of 1st n 1st in JAX Beach (center of the Northeastern FL universe). We decided on a little joint called Beachside Seafood down the street. The seating area is a covered outdoor patio on the 2nd floor, there is a market downstairs on the 1st floor. We walked up stairs and sat down, excited for some fresh fish, but things went downhill very quickly. The poor server had her work cut out for her, as she was responsible for everyone up there, and over the course of the night probably apologized to us 5 times. After an absurdly long wait to place our order, we finally got some water to our table. I ordered the mahi mahi sandwich, which was serviceable and nicely seasoned, but everything else had serious shortcomings. First off, a side of rice and beans came with my sandwich. They brought the side to me in a tiny little plastic cup, one you might see for a sample at the grocery store. Unbelievable. One of my friends with me had chips n salsa as his side and got the same thing. Then when he asked for more (this was enough for about 3 chips), she told him she had to charge him more. Also, as far as the seafood goes, there were many fried options, but not as many grilled or blackened options, which I prefer, fyi. Listen, I understand we're in a recession, but this is just too ridiculous. The fish was good, so I'd say try your luck at the market downstairs and dine elsewhere. Nice try Beachside, but you can do better than that.

I tried this restaurant while staying in Jacksonville on business. I have to say that I have had a very hard time finding ANY decent food in the Jacksonville area but this was by far the worst of any of the restaurants I visited. We ordered a fried scallop platter and a fried oyster platter. Neither of which were to be considered edible by any standards. The scallops were repelling their batter, and had a consistency of pencil erasers. The (7) oysters were quarter-sized, blackish little heaps of disgust. Even the fries were limp and over-cooked as the oil must have been too cold for frying. The waitress was very nice though and I felt bad that she had to work in such a horrible restaurant. I only wish I could give this place a lower score..

I finally dined here a few weeks ago. The weather was pretty meh so we pretty much had the upstairs area to ourselves. There wasn't even table service--which luckily doesn't bother me, but consider yourself warned if you dine during the week. However, why the 4 stars still? The fish taco!! Seriously delish. Now it is not fancy a la TacoLus or the other places. Honestly it is more like a fish Burrito in its presentation. And its super messy to eat. But the flavor was so delicious!!! I can't wait to eat it again. Also a note to the people who didn't care for it--I noticed a lot of you ordered fried seafood. Try the fish tacos next time!

This is functionally a beach shack, the kind you literally wander into barefoot, half-naked, and half-cooked from a day in the sun, so don't expect fancy. I don't object to this type of joint, though, so it's not off-putting in my world. The service is friendly enough but others are correct that it's not super speedy. I wouldn't call it terribly slow, either. We were one of maybe three groups in the house (in the dead of winter after dark), so we didn't have any problems with speed or attention other than a water that took a while to get filled. The waiter brought a sample of the local beer so we could try before getting a pint, and probably would have let me try anything I wanted from the taps before choosing. It looked like there were only two servers when we got there, one when we left, so I would hope that there are more during busy times or there really would be a ridiculous wait. My husband and I split the Captain's Platter. It was generally good, not overly greasy, or otherwise terribly objectionable. The calamari were tender and lightly breaded, not tough or troublesome. I'm not sure who they think they're fooling with those deviled crabs, though. They taste the same no matter where you order them, and are never available except as a part of the "platter," so it doesn't take a culinary degree to conclude that they (and maybe the suspicious little clam strips that don't look overly clammy) are fillers to make the fresh seafood go farther and the platter look bigger. The sauces are good at first blush but after a while get really overly heavy - not that a little heaviness stops me, mind you. There is also a perfectly adequate cocktail sauce for those who prefer a mayonnaise-free seafood experience. The prices are very reasonable for the most part, and there are choices for a variety of price ranges. I wouldn't object to going back but it wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, especially during tourist season.

seafood is average at best. My shrimp was certainly not fresh. I should have had the much raved about philly cheese steak... what does that tell you about a seafood place?

After checking out Yelp to look for a place to have dinner in Jacksonville Beach, I came across this place. It sounded right up our alley, so we thought we'd try it. Our waitress Violet was nice, but we were disappointed with the food. The fish taco that is so highly touted in other reviews was bland and the chips were stale (as another reviewer had said); our clams were undercooked (it's a seafood place and they didn't know how to steam clams??) and had to be sent back a couple times for more steaming; the fried corn was ok, but greasy; the crab stew was so-so and the lobster bisque (which my husband had) was good, according to him. Suffice to say we won't be back :(

As an outsider to Florida, the seafood here is excellent. The fish taco is really a grilled fish burrito, and it was excellent. I would eat here regularly if I lived in Jacksonville.

preface : i havent been here since the change in management -- so my review could be outdated. the seafood is always fresh -- the fries are extremely good & the prices are extremely cheap. the grouper sandwich is good along with the tuna salad. its a stones throw away from all the bars at the beaches & the pier. once youre out here -- you might at well try it. delicious.

This is a great place to eat some very good seafood outdoors. All the seafood we've had tasted fresh. When we moved to Jax, I heard this place had great philly cheese steak sandwiches. I had the chicken philly, and it's probably one of the best ones in town.

This has got to be my favorite seafood place in town, if you want all the great food, deck dining and barely any wait, this is the place to go. Its also great for lunch, you can even get it to go, of if you live/work close by i hear they deliver now

I have lived at the beaches for a few years now and I have passed this place a million times. I always knew it was there but for whatever reason never tried it. A couple of months ago I went there and it's now one of my favorite places. The seating is mostly on top of the restaurant/shop up the flight of stairs, but there is also seating around the entrace to the restaurant. The seating is outdoors but under a roof and it is very casual, but the fish is local fresh I usually get the Beachside Fish Taco which can be fried, blackened, or grilled. Believe it or not though, they are famous for their philly cheesesteaks and fresh cut fries. I go with friends frequently now and I've never heard any complaints. They will even deliver your order (on a mint green scooter) as far south as Solana Rd and north to atlantic beach. I gave the price $$ because there are some Market Price items on the menu, but most meals are less than $10, which is a steal for quality these days. Definitely worth a try!
